RARE Orig 1863 Civil War Key Wind Waltham Coin Silver Hunting Case Pocket Watch
Please view all pictures as they are considered to be part of the description. Maker— American Waltham -serial number dates it to approx. 1863 to 1864 – right in the middle of the Civil War. Case Material– Coin or Sterling silver -unmarked but has been tested. Case Color– Silver but very dark natural age patina / tarnish as pictured-has not been polished. Jewels– 15 large white Sapphire jewels. Unmarked but fully jeweled front and back plates except for the center wheel. Dial Condition– Ok original with some issues near the sub seconds area. Hands are old but somewhat different that each other. Case Condition– Nice original -unpolished. Special Features — rare to find in this nice of condition. Offset hinges , comes with an old winding key- Wind from the back and set from the front. Early solid balance movement. Other Information–Heavy watch -179 Grams total weight. 57.25mm across the case. Watch has been cleaned but timing has not been checked for accuracy. Timing will not be guaranteed -remember this watch is over 150 years old!!! PLEASE BE SURE TO SCROLL DOWN TO SEE ALL THE PICTURES! One was from a Jewelry store that closed in the 1970′s and had been a jeweler and watch repair person in business in Southern California for approx. 40 to 50 years. The other collection is from a long time collector and repair person from Northern California. A lot of the descriptions are taken from the tags or label that were attached to the watch , watch part, tools etc and please use your own knowledge for correctness of the description. I will do my best to correct any inaccuracies. Please be advised that we have no service record of any of the watches from these estates and that cleaning , oiling and general servicing is recommended and more than likely required. Please be advised that any watch with a screw back will not be tightened completely and a new or replacement gasket will be needed. Any snap back type will be closed but a gasket will also be needed. These tasks will need to be done by the customer. These are estate items and are being offered in as-found condition. That would for instance be we state something is 14K gold and is only Gold plated, we state that something is 12″ long and it is only 8″ etc. We use 95% of the time all new materials-Styrofoam Peanuts, Bubble Wrap, Boxes etc-NO padded mailers are used! .
