Up for sale is a beautiful and rare Irish silver verge fusee pair case antique pocket watch, hallmarked for 1771. The watch has not been cleaned and serviced but the movement is in good working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain very smoothly and keeps very good time. 65 minutes fast for 24 hours – very good time keeping for an early verge like this. The movement: Three arm gilt balance wheel. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. Large diamond end stone. The beautiful fire gilt movement is signed. Is one of the very good Irish watch makes of England in the 18th century. He is well listed in all the reference books. For a good example you can look at: G. Baillie, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, Vol. The inner case: Silver, very nice condition. It probably was gilted in the past, because I can notice signs of gilt on the out side, and very nice gilting on the inside. The case is fully hallmarked for Dublin 1771, with the case makers initials J C. The outer case: Silver, very good condition, one small dent from the outside, but has some scratches in the inside. With the case makers initials J C. Both cases are original. It is a large and heavy pair case silver pocket watch. The silver inner case is 45 mm wide and the silver outer case is 53 mm. The watch weighs 118 grams. 4 lovely watch papers! The extremely early and near mint original enamel dial has Arabic numerals. Beetle and poker hands. A lovely high domed bulls eye clear crystal glass. Every part of this watch is original. As you can see from the pictures, it is a lovely and spectacular watch in an amazing condition!!
