Rare 1758 Verge Fusee Pair Case Pocket Watch With Small Dial by Thomas Shilling. This is another of my great antique / vintage watch auctions. This one is for an antique pair case pocket watch dating from the middle of the 18th Century. The watch is by Thomas Shilling (marked to the movement) and it is a wonderful example of a verge escapement fusee watch. The white porcelain dial has Roman numerals with outer Arabic minutes. The dial and inner case are quite small – 38mm diameter dial and 44mm inner case. The inner and outer cases are both marked hallmarked London 1758. Lifting the dial reveals the stunning verge escapement fusee movement, marked Thomas Shilling. The watch does run but it could do with a service. Cosmetically it is good for a 260 year old watch – there is however some wear as you would expect including a broken hour hand. Please see my photos for more details.
