14K Gold Civil War era Black Starr Frost Pocket Watch Case Horses Bouquet Engraving. This is very intriguing watch case hard to find anything out about it. The only identifying marks is impressed eagle and the numbers 12686 stamped on two different parts of the watch. The watch has tested out to be 14 K with a total weight 47.51 g or 1.675 ounces. There is a steel band encircling the center of the watch body/holder, The release mechanism press down button at the top is working perfectly and the winder is also in good condition. One of the covers is engraved with two horses having fun or canoodling, with trees in the background, inserted in a circle with decorative borders the cases is then recess down with Another stamped design. There is a small crack that runs around this, near the hinge, slightly dented, engraving has a little ware but is very defined. The other case is of the same design but the engraving is a bouquet of flowers and leaves very well executed, this case also has a small dent and crack. There is also an inner cover, and the main body so case consists of four parts. The size of the watch case 2 outside Diameter approximately 3/4 of an inch thick. Length from ring to base two and seven eights inches, inside diameter approximately 1 3/4 inches. I have added black starr &frost in the title as they do use an eagle in their markings and made watches in the Civil War era. The eagle is also a symbol used by B W C Co on their cases, The eagle symbol was used in the Civil War by this company and most likely it is 16 K, from 1870 their watches were of a higher Karat, The eagle symbol was also used by Jacot & Courvoiser 1839 through 1890 Hope this is of some help!
