We offer for your consideration this antique Waltham pocket watch. This pocket watch is Semi-Operational. And will require cleaning and a new crystal. This is an antique 1896 Waltham full hunter pocket watch. This watch case measures approximately 42 mm in diameter/ 12 mm in thickness, front to back. The case is gold filled brass. For its age the exterior of this case is in very good condition. The front cover is spring set, the crystal bezel is press set. The crystal is bezel is present, but it will require a new/ replacement crystal. The front cover spring is snappy, but its closure is hit n miss, sometimes it stays closed, sometimes it pops open on its own. The edge of the case clean, with no decoration, but shows slight signs of brassing. The front cover engraving has softened over the years, is has a framed box, located just slightly below center, and it is surrounded on three sides with a scroll and floral pattern. There is something engraved in the box But we cannot decipher was it says. It could be “LEHA”. The back cover mirrors the front, and the frame looks to be filled with an abstract dot pattern. The back cover and the cuvette cover are both spring set/snap set. On the cuvette (dust cover) there is a name an d date engraved, S. Switzer, over the date, March 31-92 (1892). There is wear to the bow, and appears as though all the plating has worn away. See the pictures for case details. The dial of this watch is a white gloss porcelain enamel with a faux sunk seconds dial, with fine line roman numerals. Marking the 12 hours. Along the outside the minutes are set in a trackless border, indicated as fine line black ticks, with slightly heavier ticks at the five minute intervals. This dial has hand painted gold lustre accents along the outside of the tick track, at the five minute tick marks. The hands are fine. The second hand is plain with a small moon shape at the aft end. The seconds dial is marked with small arabic numbers at 10 second intervals. This dial is in very good condition, there are no hairline fractures, chips, or cracks. It’s always nice to see that after 126 years this pocket watch still wants to work. It took some prodding, but it woke up. We recommend that it be cleaned. Maker: American Waltham Watch Co.
