RARE IWC International Watch Co 16J Cal 53T Pocket Watch 14k Solid Gold Case. Very unusual and beautiful IWC pocket watch. The movement serial number 400626 and case serial number 427288 date the watch to about 1907. The vast majority of Cal 53 movements were lever or pin set. However, t his movement is stem set. In 1927 approx 600 of the stem set 53T were produced. I believe the deco style of the case makes it more likely to be from that era. It is a mystery as to why a 53T would have such an early serial number. Either that or this may be some earlier unknown stem set variation of the 53. A truly stunning example that you will likely never find again! Gilt 16 Jewel IWC Movement with Probus Scafusia logo. Setting : Stem Wind Stem Set. Dial : Single sunk white enamel dial with Arabic numerals signed International Watch Co. Case : Original 14k solid gold case. Signed International Watch Co. Schaffhausen serial number 427288 with beautiful checkerboard engraving detail and stepped perimeters. Diameter : 54.25 mm. Total Weight : 88.06 grams. When fully wound and placed on a timegrapher in the dial up position for one minute it shows the watch gaining approximately +35 seconds per day. A few very fine scratches on the movement. Dial : Fracture and surface flake near 7. Hairlines near 1 and 3. Case : Excellent engraving detail with hardly any wear. No dents or dings. There are many very fine micro scratches on the exterior. Crown shows moderate wear. Front cover will tip forward and close easily with gravity. Stiff bow is worn thin at the top. Crystal : Crystal has a couple very light scuffs.
