George III Silver Pair Cased Pocket Verge Watch By Thomas Taylor With Albert Chain A very handsome and heavy silver pair-cased pocket watch with a silver Albert chain. The watch has a finely pierced watch cock and engraved back plate. It has a verge movement by Thomas Taylor of London. The dial is white with black numerals and golden hands. There are ten service slips stored in the rear of the outer case dating from the late 1800s. The watch is fully hallmarked on the inner case for Birmingham 1808 and with a makers mark of WR. The outer case has the same hallmarks. It comes with a silver Albert chain with the watch key and a George III coin attached. The silver chain is marked but not dated and is probably later than the watch. Dimensions The outer case has a diameter of 2 ¼ inches (5.7cm) and a depth of ¾ of an inch (2cm). The diameter of the watch is 2 inches (5cm). The chain measures 16 inches (41cm). The total weight of the chain and watch are 197g. Condition The watch is in very good condition for its age. Both the inner and outer case are slightly worn as to be expected but are free from dents. The dial has some hairline cracks and a small chip. The crystal is quite worn but free from chips and cracks. The watch runs smoothly when placed on its back or front but stops when stood upright so it will need a service.
